Pelican Defense develops nanostructured materials and coatings engineered for survivability, sensing, and advanced electronics applications. Our work focuses on practical, mission-ready nanotechnologies—materials that improve radiation resilience, enable next-generation anti-tamper solutions, enhance heat management, or provide ultra-sensitive detection inside microelectronic systems.

Rather than “lab-scale nanotech,” our focus is on deployable products that integrate directly into defense hardware, test chips, and ruggedized systems.

Core Product Areas

Nanotube-Enhanced Coatings & Films

We create functional coatings using halloysite nanotubes, carbon nanotubes, and engineered nano-ceramics for:

  • Radiation shielding enhancement
  • Anti-tamper signaling layers
  • Corrosion-resistant protective coatings
  • Embedded diagnostic films
  • Micro-porous electret layers for energy capture and charge retention

These coatings can be applied to PCBs, housings, cables, microelectronic packages, and aerospace structures.

Nano-Structured Sensing Layers

Pelican Defense fabricates nanostructured materials that serve as high-sensitivity sensing elements for:

  • Radiation dose/dose-rate measurement
  • Thermal hotspots and transient heating
  • Environmental exposure (moisture, contaminants)
  • Mechanical strain or vibration

These sensing layers integrate with on-chip diagnostics, MEMS structures, or system-level monitoring architectures.
